Oh, to set our love upon God.

There is something really beautiful about your finding this through erasure, independent of the text, its the solvent quality of love, its violent hands finding through what presents itself as a fake altar, its own hands reaching too.

Sheesh… the solvent of love. That may be one of the most beautiful ways I’ve ever heard love described.

“Woe be unto him whom desire has desired.” What a line. I had to read it twice.

There’s such a profound truth here about the way desire can quietly move from something we possess to something that possesses us. And then your connection to worship and idolatry brings it home. What we continually give our hearts to eventually shapes us into its likeness. This gave me a lot to think about. Thanks, Mandy.

Very cool poem. One wouldn't think that violent hands would save the day outside of a super hero movie. Woe to the idols that fall because of Love which is God.

Thank you so much! I saw those “violent hands” as the force of deliverance, almost like pulling someone from a burning house.
